Time to Try 10-digit Dialing as New Area Code Phases In

Due to growing demand for telephone numbers in eastern Oklahoma, a new 539 area code will also serve the region currently served by the 918 area code. Because of the new 539 area code, all Salina-Spavinaw Telephone customers will eventually be required to dial 10 digits when making local phone calls. Dialing changes
have already begun. In early August, SST customers could begin dialing local 918 calls with 10 digits – area code + 7-digit phone number. Starting March 5, 2011, you must dial 10 digits for local calls to complete. |

If you currently have a 918 telephone number, it will not change. Customers seeking new telephone numbers in the affected region may be assigned the new 539 area code as early as April 1, 2011. Calling prices have not changed. Local calls are still local calls regardless of the number of digits dialed. Three-digit dialing remains in place for emergency services (911), call before you dig (811), telecommunications relay services for the hearing- or speech-impaired (711), and, human services referral information (211).

Oklahoma Sales Tax Relief Expanded Guidelines Help More Households Qualify for Discounted Telephone Service Through Lifeline
Oklahoma has expanded its Sales Tax Relief Act. If your household falls within the new guidelines AND you file Form 538-S, then you qualify for discounted telephone service through Lifeline. Oklahoma residents continue to qualify with household income of $20,000 or less if single, or, if married with no dependents. Expanded guidelines now include households earning $50,000 or less with a dependent, or, if you or your spouse are 65 or older, or, if you have proof of a physical disability. Contact the Oklahoma Tax Commission at 1.800.522.8165 for Form 538-S.
